Project Libertad Online Auction: Photography for Change
Thursday, May 22 - Wednesday, June 18, 2008
Opening reception for the auction: Saturday, May 24th, 7:00 PM
Project Libertad is pleased to offer for sale a group of photographs by several notable contemporary artists to benefit the project. Many of the images were taken during artists’ visits along the US and Mexican border and emanate vivid and intimate details of the unique culture found there. All proceeds go directly towards the realization of the project.
Moving between two classic genres - portrait and landscape - these striking photographs - which include the image of Juarez, Mexico peering over the glittering lights of El Paso, a surrealistic headless horse, and a young female mariachi player - contain thematic relationships that evoke the depth of components within border communities.
The five photographers who donated their works to benefit Libertad are Colin Montgomery, Maeve Hickey, Andy Hardman, Thomas Owen McCaffrey, and Mark Hartman. These artists have had their works exhibited in both the US and abroad, many have been featured in notable magazines and books, and a few have been the recipients of prestigious grants, including the Tierney Fellowship.
Project Libertad is a production company dedicated to bringing digital arts education and creative opportunities to at risk youth and impoverished communities worldwide through the combination of workshops, film and other media to raise social awareness and effect beneficial change to the individual.
All contributions to Project Libertad are used to produce our films and youth workshops. We are sponsored by a 501(c)(3) organization and all donations (other than photo purchases) are tax deductible to extent permitted by law.
